The Houseplant Hideout offered a moment of zen to Londoners

04 November 2021

PR event to support the Thanks Plants campaign gave Londoners a space to relax with nature

An immersive installation dubbed the ‘Houseplant Hideout’ launched in East London on 7 October to showcase the benefits of being surrounded by houseplants. We teamed up with two of the UK’s most acclaimed figures in the worlds of design and botany to bring London a much-needed restorative plant immersion and mood booster. The Houseplant Hideout was the latest addition to our critically acclaimed annual Thanks Plants campaign, which celebrates the myriad benefits that introducing houseplants into our homes and home offices have on our lives.

Vertical kaleidoscope
The green installation was designed by award-winning Architect DaeWha Kang and renowned Ethnobotanist James Wong for Thejoyofplants.co.uk. Bursting with an exotic array of luscious houseplants, the installation featured a vertical kaleidoscope designed to transport Londoners into a biophilic wonderland of Zen. Depending on mood, visitors could relax and unwind with an optional 10 minute guided plant meditation created by Plant Spirit Expert Holly Worton, or opt to interact with changing light and relaxing soundscape submerges with the plants for a more stimulating experience. Each houseplant has been carefully selected by James Wong for its wellbeing and biophilic benefits, as well as their aesthetics.

Happier when surrounded by greenery
With a recent study showing that 60% of Brits feel happier when surrounded by greenery and more than two-thirds of respondents saying houseplants have a positive impact on their mental health, this installation has come at the perfect time.

The installation was open to the public from 7 to 10 October 2021.
